Anthony Angarola

Anthony Angarola (1893 - 1929) was active/lived in Illinois.  Anthony Angarola is known for Modernist-leaning landscape, ethnic urban genre.

A graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Anthony Angarola became an active painter and art instructor. He was a first-generation Italian immigrant, and much of his work focused on his compassion for persons struggling to adopt to a foreign culture.

Angarola's teaching positions included the Layton School of Art in Milwaukee (1921), the Minneapolis School of Art (1922-25), the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (1926) and the Kansas City Art Institute from 1926 until his death in 1929 at age 36. In 1927, he became the Director of the Department of Painting and Drawing and was influenced in regional themes by his associate Thomas Hart Benton. However, he maintained a modernist style and focused on ethnic groups rather than certain parts of the country.
